Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim's Life Long Learning Committee is excited to welcome Jack Wertheimer, professor of American Jewish history at the Jewish Theological Seminary, as the first Scholar-in-Residence.

Professor Wertheimer will provide two lectures, the first entitled, "Jews on the Move: How Migrations Have Remade American Jewish Life", and the second, "The Good News About American Judaism".

His most recent book, The New American Judaism: How Jews Practice Their Religion Today (2018) and the topics it explores, will be the focus of this program. ‘We are excited to bring Professor Wertheimer to our community as he is one of the leading historians and interpreters of the American Jewish experience,” says Rabbi Paul Kerbel. “Professor Wertheimer will help us put into perspective the success but also the challenges of Jewish life in America."

“Hosting Professor Wertheimer is yet another example of how TBEMC is serving our members and the greater community as a center for Jewish learning”.

Following Professor Wertheimer's lecture, TBEMC will continue to explore the Jewish Immigrant Experience with a lecture on Anti-Semitism in America from ADL Regional Director Evan Bernstein on Thursday, Nov 14 and a community trip to the Lower East Side in mid-December.
