'Virginia' Thrills 'Georgia Tech' in HS Rec Basketball Championship
"Virginia" comes from behind to win 55-51 in a thriller.
The crowd at Hillside Avenue School saw a thriller last night as Cranford coach Paul Smith's "Virginia" team defeated Cranford coach Bob Bovasso's "Georgia Tech" team 55-51 in the high school recreational basketball finals.
Both teams, named after successful college basketball programs in the Southeast, fought hard on the court. Georgia Tech hold a steady lead for most of the game, but Virginia hung tough and came back with some clutch shooting in the final minutes to win the game.
John Oblachinski announced the lineups and acknowledged Paul Smith Sr., who started the league 35 years ago.
