Westfield Business Relocating To Cranford

Lerner David, one of Westfield's biggest taxpayers, moves to Commerce Drive in November.

CRANFORD, NJ - Westfield's loss is Cranford's gain, as after 50 years at the corner of Rahway and South Avenue, international law firm Lerner David is moving their business to Cranford. The global intellectual property law firm, is relocating 20 Commerce Drive in Cranford, leasing space in the Cranford business park.

Lerner David's new home at 20 Commerce Drive is a fully-amenitized Class A building with direct access to the Garden State Parkway the new lease encompasses 34,373 square feet for a term in excess of 10 years.

"We are delighted to support Lerner David in the relocation of their firm headquarters to Cranford," said Vice Chairman of Newman Knight Frank (NKF) David Simson, who represented Lerner David in the transaction. "This property was a particularly compelling option given its location and easy accessibility, combined with the modernized workspaces Signature Acquisitions has been developing at 20 Commerce Drive."

Signature Acquisitions purchased 20 Commerce Drive from Mack-Cali in 2017 and is in the process of modernizing the building, including new cafeteria space, conference centers and an on-site management office. In total, the facility consists of 186,813 square feet on four stories and is located at the four-way interchange at Exit 136 of the Garden State Parkway.

Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle said she was disappointed to confirm the company's exodus when their lease is up in November.

"I met with their managing partner last summer, I learned they wanted to stay in Westfield but needed more modern office space with parking to accommodate 150 employees and that a search process has been underway for quite some time," Brindle said. "Unfortunately we have no existing space to accommodate one of our largest taxpayers."

Co-Managing Partner of Lerner David Keith Gilman said that the new space will also help not only retain current talent, but attract future attorneys to grow and strengthen each practice areas.

"We are pleased to deliver the kind of workplace talent of that caliber seeks," Gilman said. "We look forward to continuing to serve our clients in this new location."
