Orange Daily Buzz: Aug. 18, 2026 (jerseybee.org) — East Orange residents have several free, community-focused events coming up, including a Black Breastfeeding Week Community Day on Aug. 22 at 280 S. Harrison St. and a domestic violence education program at the East Orange Public Library on Sept. 1. The roundup also flags a Bloomfield MVC mobile unit visit, a West Orange charity 5K, a county photo contest, and PATH fare changes.
   

2. Orange, East Orange Police Will Run DUI Checkpoints Ahead Of Labor Day Holiday (patch.com) — East Orange police will run DUI patrols and checkpoints between Aug. 19 and Sept. 7 as part of New Jersey's "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. Backed by a $7,000 state grant, local officers will join more than 100 agencies statewide in highly visible enforcement aimed at deterring impaired driving before and during Labor Day.
   

3. First Look: East Orange Football Steps Onto the Field for Preseason Test (tapinto.net) — East Orange's high school football team just kicked off its 2026 preparations with a demanding quad-scrimmage in Phillipsburg, facing three different North Jersey programs. Coaches used the live action to test new lineups, evaluate conditioning, and gather film so the Jaguars can correct mistakes and sharpen execution before the regular season begins.
   

4. As EOF Family Grows, Alumni Pour into Next Generation (ramapo.edu) — An East Orange native and Ramapo College EOF alum, Janay Davidson, and her best friend Jureyah Johnson—now working in HR for the City of East Orange—returned to campus to mentor new EOF scholars. Their stories highlight how New Jersey's EOF program offers academic, financial, and emotional support that can launch students into impactful public service and professional careers.
