$3 Million In State Funds For East Brunswick’s Ice Rink

The ice rink will be located at 110 Tices and built on 8 acres of land.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The Township recently received $3 million in state funds to build its ambitious ice rink.

The grant was issued through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and is part of the 2023 NJ state budget.

The ice rink will be located at 110 Tices or at the old Wonder Bread factory. The township plans to build the ice rink on 8 acres of land.

This rink will be part of East Brunswick's recreation utilities and will have multiple uses like ice hockey and ice skating. More: Council Shares More Details On Potential Ice Rink In East Brunswick

On Thursday Mayor Brad Cohen posted a letter to the community outlining the various grants the township received - including $3 million for the Municipal Ice Rinks. "These grants and many others, all help to pay for needed budget items that would otherwise be paid through your property taxes," Cohen said. The project is part of the township’s plan to redevelop Route 18 and is expected to be a big economic driver for East Brunswick.

The ice rink will cost between $13 million to $18 million. DMR architects will develop the architectural and engineering plans and bid documents.
