5 Pounds of Marijuana Sent in the U.S. Mail in East Brunswick

Police seized a five-pound package of pot delivered via U.S. mail to an East Brunswick home.

East Brunswick, NJ - East Brunswick police intercepted a five-pound package of marijuana that was being delivered by the U.S. Postal Service late last month, police there said.

Members of the East Brunswick Police Anti-Crime Unit had been tipped off that a large drug quantity was being mailed to a residence in the township. Working with postal workers from the Newark division of the USPS, police tracked the package and arrested the man who received it, East Brunswick resident Benjamin Luft.

The package contained five pounds of marijuana and suspected THC-laced candy. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana's psychological effects. Luft was charged with multiple counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone. He was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center. Bail was set at $75,000 with no 10% option.
