East Brunswick Invites Residents To Try Newly Renovated Courts At Pine Ridge

Mayor Brad Cohen and Councilman Kevin McEvoy toured the newly renovated courts, calling the investment long overdue.

EAST BRUNSWICK — The township has completed renovations to the tennis and basketball courts at the Pine Ridge Park, with new pickleball stenciling added to the tennis courts as part of the upgrade.

Mayor Brad Cohen and Councilman Kevin McEvoy visited the park this week to highlight the improvements, which were carried out by the township's Parks and Recreation Department.

"It's important to us that we maintain all of our parks," Cohen said. "You can't just keep fields and expect that they're going to stay in good shape forever. So, you're constantly forced to reinvest in your assets."

The tennis courts have been resurfaced and stenciled for pickleball, a sport Cohen noted is growing quickly in popularity.

"Right on our tennis courts, you can see they are also stenciled for those that want to play pickleball," he said. "We know that that's a really fast-growing sport."

McEvoy, who represents the Pine Ridge section of town, where the park is located, said the renovations reflect strong community support for the project.

"The improvements the mayor just talked about — there's overwhelming regard for upgrading this park," McEvoy said.

The basketball courts also received attention as part of the project. McEvoy said the freshly upgraded facilities made him want to hit the court himself.

Cohen said the work at Pine Ridge Park is part of a broader commitment to maintaining the township's recreational infrastructure and praised the departments and officials who made the project possible.

"Kudos to the Parks and Recreation Department," he said. "Thank you to the Council for approving those expenses, and we'll continue to do that throughout the 26 different public works here in East Brunswick."
