EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick is hosting its annual Youth Fishing Derby at Dallenbach Lake on Saturday, June 6, offering children a free morning of fishing, competition and outdoor recreation to kick off the summer.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is open to young anglers of all experience levels, from first-timers to veterans. No fishing permit is required, and registration will be handled on site the morning of the event.
Prizes will be awarded across multiple divisions, and organizers say the derby will proceed rain or shine.
Families who don't own gear can still participate — a limited number of loaner fishing poles will be available, and live bait and hooks will be on hand while supplies last.
The event is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Fish & Wildlife's Hooked on Fishing – Not on Drugs program, a statewide initiative that uses recreational fishing to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles among young people.
Dallenbach Lake is located in East Brunswick. Parking and additional details are available through the township's parks and recreation department.
