EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Congressional candidate and East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen has received the “Gun Sense Candidate” designation from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a national grassroots organization focused on reducing gun violence and promoting public safety measures.
The distinction is awarded to candidates who pledge to prioritize gun safety legislation and advocate for policies aimed at protecting communities from gun violence.
Cohen announced the designation in a statement this week, calling public safety “the most fundamental responsibility” of government.
“As Mayor, protecting our community and keeping our families safe has always been my number one priority,” Cohen said. “Every family in our community deserves to feel safe in their neighborhoods, their houses of worship, and their schools.”
The Democratic candidate said he is “honored to stand alongside the advocates and moms fighting every day for a safer future,” adding that he plans to bring that commitment to Congress if elected.
Cohen has frequently emphasized community safety during his time as mayor, framing public safety and quality-of-life initiatives as central priorities of his administration.
Moms Demand Action, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, endorses candidates across the country who support expanded background checks, safe storage laws, and other gun violence prevention measures.
“Let’s keep working together to protect our children and grandchildren,” Cohen said in the announcement.
Cohen is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District. He joins fellow candidate Sam Wang in earning the distinction.
