EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man wanted since May for trying to strangle his father was found and arrested in New Jersey, the East Brunswick Police Department said.
On Monday, the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland contacted East Brunswick police seeking help to find Brian A. Carmon, who's wanted for attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.
According to police, Carmon was accused of strangling his father on May 21 and then fleeing in his father's silver Honda Odyssey minivan.
Information obtained by Montgomery County police led them to believe that Carmon was possibly in East Brunswick, near Mid State Mall on 300 Highway 18.
East Brunswick police officers saturated the area in search of Carmon before Ptlm. James LaRocca found the minivan parked behind Harbor Freight Tools on 275 Highway 18.
Carmon was found inside the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with one count of fugitive from justice and was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending extradition to Maryland.
"This arrest is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of our officers, as well as the strong partnerships that exist between law enforcement agencies across state lines," said Chief Frank LoSacco.
"When agencies work together and share information effectively, dangerous fugitives have fewer places to hide," LoSacco continued. "I commend our officers for their outstanding work and thank our law enforcement partners for their cooperation throughout this investigation."
The investigation remains active and is being led by the Montgomery County Police Department.
Any additional inquiries regarding the underlying homicide investigation should be directed to that agency, police said.
