After receiving the call, Ptlm. Amanda Maggio quickly responded to the area but was initially unable to see or hear any signs of the stranded animal.

Hearing the call, Dt. Alex Danese, the department's resident "cat whisperer" who rescued a feline from a storm drain back in July 2024, self-responded to assist.

Dt. Danese deployed a specialized trap baited with sardines to safely lure the kitten out of hiding.

Returning to the scene later that evening, he discovered his plan worked, and the kitten was successfully rescued.

"Excellent work by Patrolman Maggio and Detective Danese for going above and beyond to protect all members of our community, big and small!" the department said in an online post.
