EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Public Library will screen the documentary "Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom" Tuesday, from 7 to 8 p.m.
The film explores the origins of Juneteenth through the experiences of those emancipated in Texas in 1865.
It follows a Black man grappling with the legacy of American slavery and the misuse of Christianity to justify it, as he travels throughout Texas to trace how the holiday came to symbolize hope and resistance for the formerly enslaved and their descendants.
The screening is free and open to the public at the East Brunswick Public Library.
