National Hot Dog Day is an annual observance established by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council in 1991 to coincide with a hot dog lunch on Capitol Hill, and is celebrated each year on a Wednesday in July. The date shifts annually because the observance always falls on the third Wednesday of the month.

Americans consume an estimated 20 billion hot dogs annually, including about 7 billion during the summer grilling season alone.
