East Brunswick Seeks $1.5M In State Grants To Rebuild 2 Roads

East Brunswick's grant applications target Rennee Road reconstruction and Independence Drive resurfacing.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Township Council has authorized the submission of two grant applications seeking a combined $1.5 million in state funding for road improvements.

The resolutions, approved as part of the council's consent agenda, direct Mayor Brad Cohen and the township clerk to submit electronic applications to the New Jersey Department of Transportation under its Municipal Aid Program for fiscal year 2027.

One application, identified as MA-2027-Rennee Road Reconstruction (from Tices Lane to Terminus)-00495, seeks $651,000 to rebuild Rennee Road from Tices Lane to its terminus.

The second application, identified as MA-2027-Independence Drive Resurfacing-00497, seeks $872,000 for resurfacing improvements to Independence Drive.

Both resolutions cite the renewal of the state's Transportation Trust Fund, which allows the Municipal Aid Program to continue funding local road improvements for fiscal year 2027.

If the grants are approved, Cohen and the township clerk are authorized to sign the resulting grant agreements on the township's behalf, which would formalize the township's acceptance of the funding terms for each project.
