East Brunswick Public Library Celebrates Welcoming Week

East Brunswick Public Library (2 Jean Walling Civic Center Drive) joins communities around the globe to celebrate Welcoming Week, an annual campaign to deepen understanding and connection between all members of the community. The week is celebrated at the library from September 10-19.

This year's theme is "The Courage to Connect." Several events are planned to help our neighbors engage with the community around them.

East Brunswick Public Library teams up with the ADIPA Alliance of East Brunswick to host a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 pm. Dr. Drew Hanson, owner of Boukakuan Japanese Tea House, and Brandon Forsht illustrate how this ritual has evolved over the past 500 years, as well as sharing authentic refreshments. This is a ticketed event, and registration is required.

The East Brunswick community will also have opportunities to learn more about the services their government offers. Constituent service staff representing the office of Senator Cory Booker will be at the library on Thursday, September 10, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm to share information about federal resources. The office of State Assemblyman Sterley Stanley will have mobile office outreach hours at the library on Thursday, September 17, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Other community groups will be at the library. This includes the Pride Center of New Jersey on Monday, September 15, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and the East Brunswick NJ Housing Community Housing Corporation on Wednesday, September 16, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

New Jersey Statewide Student Support services is an agency designed to help families with children in grades K-12. They will be at the library on Wednesday, September 16, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

The Raritan Valley YMCA also leads a free family fitness class on Friday, September 11 at 10:00 am.
