East Brunswick Emergency Dispatch Center Earns State Accreditation

The township police department's communications center met state professional standards after an independent review.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Police Department's emergency communications center has earned state accreditation, police announced.

The center achieved accreditation through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Accreditation Program. The Board of Commissioners of the New Jersey Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission approved it on Oct. 8, according to the department.

The voluntary program recognizes public safety communications centers that meet set professional standards in their policies, procedures, management, operations and support services, police said.

To earn the designation, the center first completed a detailed self-assessment. That was followed by an independent on-site evaluation, during which assessors reviewed documents, examined operations and facilities, and interviewed staff to confirm the center was meeting the required standards.

Communications Supervisor Frank Bottiglieri, who also serves as the center's accreditation manager, led the effort. He worked with the emergency communications staff to document compliance and prepare for the assessment, police said.

"This achievement reflects the leadership and dedication of Communications Supervisor Frank Bottiglieri and the professionalism of our dispatchers," Police Chief Frank LoSacco said. "Frank guided our communications center through a demanding accreditation process, and our dispatchers bring those standards to life every day."

LoSacco also pointed to the role dispatchers play when residents call for help.

"They are often the first voice someone hears during an emergency, providing calm guidance while coordinating the response," he said. "I am proud of their work and their commitment to the people of East Brunswick."

According to the department, PSAP accreditation offers independent assurance that the center meets recognized standards for answering emergency calls, coordinating police, fire, and emergency medical services, and supporting public safety operations.

The department said it will keep up those standards through ongoing review, training, and continued improvement.
