Bat With Rabies Found In East Brunswick
Breaking: The bat was found in the vicinity of Yorktown Road and Brandywine Drive, police said.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A bat that was later determined to have rabies was found in East Brunswick this week, East Brunswick police reported.
The bat was found in the vicinity of Yorktown Road and Brandywine Drive and the positive rabies test results came back Tuesday. The bat was found Sunday inside a home on Yorktown Road. Five people were exposed while trying to catch the bat, and one pet was as well. The residents were advised to seek medical consultation for rabies post-exposure, and to have the pet seen by a veterinarian. This is the eighth rabid animal found in Middlesex County in 2017 and the first rabid animal reported in East Brunswick.
Middlesex County Health Services will continue to monitor rabies cases in East Brunswick. Residents should report wild animals showing signs of unusual behavior to the Police Department. Immediately report any bites from wild or domestic animals to your local health department and consult a physician as soon as possible. And be sure that all family pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.
