BOE Holds Reorganization Meeting In East Brunswick, Lachs Reelected President

Laurie Lachs and Heather Guas were reelected as president and vice president of the board during the reorganization meeting.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – The East Brunswick Board of Education held its reorganization meeting on Jan. 5.

Reelected board members – Heather Guas and Liwu Hong took their oath of office.

Board member Vicky Becker nominated Laurie Lachs to once again serve as Board president.

“Laurie did a wonderful job last year,” Becker said. “We take this job knowing that it's not easy and that you need to have determination and commitment and compassion... I feel that Laurie brings a humanity to our Board.” Lachs was elected by six votes, with Jeffrey Winston voting no.

Susanna Chiu nominated Guas to once again serve as vice president of the Board.

“We’ve all got to know Heather over the last three years as she rounded out her first term on Board of Education. She is a special ed teacher and a very engaged member of the community,” Chiu said while nominating Guas.

Guas was elected unanimously. Reelected board members Mark Csizmar and Mark Carangelo were not present during the meeting.

The reorganization was followed by a report by school superintendent Victor Valeski.
