The vehicle broke through a guardrail and landed on Tices Lane, according to police.

The accident happened at 3:53 p.m. on the northbound roadway, at mile-marker 81.6, when a gold Nissan went off roadway, police said.

The accident happened in the East Brunswick area and shut down traffic between Elkins Road and Ryders Lane on Tices Lane, authorities said.

The driver was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical in New Brunswick where the person was listed in critical condition late Saturday afternoon, police said.
