Burglary Suspect Makes Getaway In Police Car, Strikes Officer In Middlesex County

One of two burglary suspects is still at large after he fled from New Brunswick authorities in a marked police vehicle, striking one of the officers in the process.
Police responded to a burglary in progress call in the area of 48 Baldwin Street today, Feb. 4, and found two suspects fleeing on foot as they arrived.
The first suspect, 24-year-old Duane Quarles, was quickly apprehended while the second suspect led police on a foot chase through several yards before he jumped into a marked police vehicle parked on Comstock Street.

The officer standing next to the vehicle was struck as the suspect made his getaway. The police vehicle was located a short time later on Evergreen Drive.
The investigation is ongoing as officers continue the search for the second suspect.

The second suspect is described as:
- African-Amercian
- male
- wearing blue thermal underwear.
The struck officer received minor injuries and was treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Duane Quarles Jr. is charged with Burglary, Eluding, Conspiracy to Commit Attempted Murder, Obstruction, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Assault on Police, and Theft.
