"A Rosenberg by any Other Name: Jewish Name Changing n the 20th Century." Our idea of name changing reminds us mostly of celebrity name changes or Ellis Island officials who changed immigrants' names. In this day and age, in NYC, thousands of Jews legally change their names to respond to institutionalized antisemitism. This practice became a source of family pain and community stigma.
