Campos Focuses on Forward Thinking

East Brunswick resident and New Jersey Blaze striker Rob Campos focuses on upcoming season.

As one of New Jersey Blaze's most consistent performers last year in attack, stryker Rob Campos knows the importance of being ready from the first whistle: "I have been in the gym four times a week mainly focusing on weight training. I want to be as strong as possible and I feel I am quite prepared for the upcoming season.”

On May 19, the Blaz opened against defending champions FC Sonic Lehigh Valley at k in South Brunswick and lost 2-1. They dropped their second game on May 22 to the AC Crusaders by a score of 4-0.

While the physical aspect of Campos' game is improving, a healthy dose of self- confidence also helps the Blaze forward each time he steps onto the field. "I feel that I have a variety of qualities that I bring to the team. On the field, I am a very versatile attacking player and am mentally tough. Off the field, my dedication and attitude helps me become a better player and teammate."

Such exemplary focus is what the Rutgers Newark senior expects of himself as well as others on the team and it's clear he intends to implement what he learned last year to help the new players. "Having the first year's experience has made me stronger as a player and a person. The way I will use my experience is by pushing the new guys to their maximum potential."

Campos' personal targets are already set. "My number one goal is to hit the back of the net at least 7 times. As a striker, scoring goals is a priority and that is my focus for the season. Another goal that I wish to accomplish is to start and finish every game. Doing that will justify my hard work and strong play throughout the season. I would also like to win our group to make it to the playoffs and eventually the finals to bring home the championship."

NJ Blaze Head Coach Rob Napier echoes Campos' sentiments. "Rob has shown his commitment to the team and I feel confident he will raise his game to a new level this year by making the difference in front of goal on a consistent basis. Through his physical and mental preparation, he is giving himself the head start necessary to be competitive in the NPSL and I look forward to seeing him score many winning goals for the Blaze this season!"

The New Jersey Blaze compete in the East Division in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and are a member of The New Jersey Soccer Group, a management company for a family of soccer based organizations offering a full range of soccer services in New Jersey.
