Concerts In The Courtyard Series Is Back In East Brunswick

The series has returned for another edition in 2023, featuring a diverse line-up of entertainers.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – The East Brunswick Public Library’s Concert in the Courtyard series has returned for another edition in 2023.

This year’s line-up features diverse entertainers, representing different cultures that make up central New Jersey. All concerts start at 2 p.m. Grant funding for the program has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund. The concert series is held in the East Brunswick Municipal Courtyard, between the library and the township building.

Concertgoers should bring a beach chairs or a blanket to sit on. In case of inclement weather, the performances move indoors.

Here’s the list of upcoming performances:

Mario Chamoun, June 4, 2 p.m.

  • Chamoun is a Lebanese singer and musician, who has been entertaining audiences worldwide with his Oud (a Middle-Eastern lute) and folkloric singing performances for over 20 years.

Sounds of Korea, June 11, 2 p.m.

  • This concert will be held indoors. “Sounds of Korea” spans more than two centuries of Korean music performed by some of New Jersey’s Korean musicians. Grace Leekyung Kang and Junghee Oh, specialists in the performance of traditional Korean music, will present music from the Joseon Dynasty as well as folk songs performed on traditional instruments. The program will also feature Sung Won Hwang (clarinet), Ye Ji Kim (violin), Yun Kyung Choo (piano) and Timothy Urban (voice and recorder), performing music by Isang Yun.

Rhythm Bollywood, June 18, 2 p.m.

  • Prakash Parmar will be presenting music from the Indian film industry.

Lisbon Express Band, June 25, 2 p.m.

  • The Lisbon Express Band performs a variety of songs that celebrate Portuguese culture.

Sherjan Ahmed, July 2, 2 p.m.

  • Sherjan Ahmad has been touring across the United States and Pakistan with his fathers band “Junoon.” Having performed with South Asia’s biggest rock band he gained a lot of musical experience and knowledge. Ahmed has done extensive session work for many projects. He also released his debut album “Jaan”.

Stephen Fuller, July 9, 2 p.m.

Viva Vallenato, July 16, 2 p.m.

  • Viva Vallenato! Cumbia Band has been electrifying crowds with the classic folkloric music of Colombia since 2013. They are sure to get you dancing.

Na’Bodach, July 24, 2 p.m.

  • The band explores Celtic tradition through old and new songs.

Gypsy Funk Band, July 30, 2 p.m.

  • Gypsy Funk plays a mix of classic belly dance songs from Turkey, Armenia, Egypt, The Balkans, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, and other places from the Middle east. Their repertoire is also revamped rock tunes and original psychedelic surprises.
