Cookie Sale Helps East Brunswick Girl Scouts To Aid Community Kitchen
Troop 81636 of East Brunswick used profits made from last year's cookie sale to deliver snack bags to Elijah's Promise Community Kitchen.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ —It's Girl Scout Cookie season and apart from setting up their booths and selling delicious treats, the local Girl Scout Troop is also helping those in need.
Troop 81636 of East Brunswick recently learned about a shortage of snack bags at Elijah’s Promise Community Kitchen. Using some of the profits made from last year’s cookie sale, the girls purchased supplies that included water, granola bars and chips.
Setting up base at a local Starbucks, the girls helped bag the supplies and deliver them to the community kitchen.

When Gonzalez told her troop members about the shortage, "they immediately asked what they could do to provide snacks for local kids that need them,” Gonzalez told Patch via email.
The Girl Scouts voted and approved to use some of their Girl Scout Cookie Program profits from 2022 to purchase the supplies. Gonzalez purchased the items at a local grocery and sent word to the Troop’s Moms that they would meet at a local Starbucks to assemble the snack bags.
While assembling the snack bags, the Girl Scouts talked about their ideas to start their Silver Award Project.
“Selena, Amanda and Sophia have decided to work on a project that helps English Language Learners with their pronunciation, while Naomi, Alisha and Emily will design a project to help Animals with a more comfortable while they are waiting to be adopted,” Gonzalez said.
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. The intention of the Award is to give a Girl Scouts the chance to show that they are leaders who are organized, determined, and dedicated to improving their community.
After assembling the bags, a Troop mom drove the girls to Elijah’s Promise Community Kitchen, so they could hand deliver the snack bags.
The girls hope that more people come forward to support and help local nonprofits and community kitchens.
