Delayed Start To School In East Brunswick Friday Due To Storm

The East Brunswick school district will have delayed openings on Friday, due to treacherous road conditions.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A winter storm with a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to hit New Jersey Thursday night into Friday, causing hazardous road conditions.

The East Brunswick school district will have delayed openings on Friday, Feb. 25.

  • East Brunswick High School: 9:26 a.m. to 2:12 p.m.
  • Churchill Junior High School: 9:26 a.m. to 2:12 p.m.
  • Hammarskjold Middle School: 10:03 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Elementary Schools: 11:10 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.

Early Learning Academy (ELA) Full Day: 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

  • Half-day a.m.: 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Half-day p.m.: 1 p.m.- 2:30 p.m.
  • Mid-day extension: 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.

Hammarskjold Middle School morning start and ELA early morning programs begin at 8:50 a.m.
Elementary early morning program begins at 9 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the township and all of Middlesex County. The watch is in effect between 7 p.m. Thursday, until 10 a.m. Friday.

Mixed precipitation and total snow and sleet accumulation of up to an inch are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the weather service's latest forecast discussion, snow will become freezing rain Thursday into Friday morning.

Commuters should expect slippery road conditions. The hazardous weather could impact the morning commute, forecasters said.

Here's the forecast:

Thursday Night: A chance of rain before 11 p.m., then sleet between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Freezing rain after 4 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total nighttime ice accumulation of less than 0.1 of an inch possible. Total nighttime sleet accumulation of less than half an inch possible.

Friday: Rain or freezing rain before 11 a.m. A chance of rain between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no ice accumulation is expected.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
