Drivers Urged To Stay Home As Flash Flooding Hits East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick police are warning residents of several flooded roadways throughout town as heavy rain moves through the area.

A flash flood warning remains in effect for Middlesex County and the surrounding region until 5:30 p.m. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly issued the warning as thunderstorms brought heavy rain to the area, with 1 to 2 inches of rain already fallen and rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour expected.

Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is possible, according to the weather service, which warned that flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

The warning covers flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and other low-lying and drainage-prone areas. East Brunswick is among the locations the weather service identified as at risk for flash flooding.

Police are urging residents to stay off the roads and to never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
