Spotswood, NJ - A man who police say was stumbling and intoxicated tried to hitchhike a ride from a passing car, not knowing it was driven by an off-duty police officer, Spotswood police said.
Borough police say the intoxicated man was seen hitchhiking and stumbling into the roadway on Devoe Avenue at about 5:40 p.m. on Aug. 4. Sgt. Nicholas Mayo, who was off-duty at the time, drove by in his personal car and called the man into headquarters, out of concern that he was creating a hazard. He then stopped to speak with him and the intoxicated hitchhiker walked over to his car to get a ride, not knowing it was an off-duty officer, police said.
The man, later identified as Andrew Molotschko, had an active $1,000 warrant out of Monroe Township. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
