EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — As of Friday, May 1, East Brunswick is at 485 total COVID-19 positive cases and 27 deaths.

"A little more than half of those deaths were at long-term care facilities," said East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen. "We only learned Wednesday of 13 of those deaths as they were left out of previous reports."

"These are NOT new or recent deaths, but are listed now due to a delay in reporting," he said.

On Tuesday of this week, New Jersey also announced it is extending the grace period for the May 1, property tax payment. Property owners now have until June 1 to pay their property taxes.

"This was a complete reversal from all the reports we previously received from the Treasury Department and the Department of Community Affairs specifically warning municipalities against such actions," said Mayor Cohen. "But now that we have the green light, I have had to work with our Chief Financial Officer, the Tax Collection Department and our creditors to insure that the township cash flow operations will be able to handle such a delay in payments."
