East Brunswick BOE Reorganization: New Board President Elected
Laurie Lachs is the new Board president with Heather Guas serving as vice president.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Board of Education recently held its reorganization meeting, and Board member Laurie Lachs was elected president.
Lachs, who earlier served as vice president, was nominated by former president Vicki Becker. “Laurie has a generosity of time and spirit that is so rare. She has a unique ability to be compassionate and emphatic while at the same time remembering what all her responsibilities are,” Becker said.
“She is fair, has a great sense of humor and she listens and she learns.” A 21-year member of the East Brunswick Board of Education, Becker has served as its president and vice president a number of times.

The Board voted 7-2 to elect Lachs. Board member Susanna Chiu nominated Heather Guas to serve as vice president. Guas was elected 7-2. Mark Csizmar and Jeffrey Winston abstained from voting. Later during the meeting, Csizmar said he has concerns about the voting process, and not the candidates and Winston cited the need for “board unification” as reason for abstaining.
Lachs thanked Becker for her leadership and called her “caring” and “loyal.”
