April showers are good for more things than just May flowers. Just ask East Brunswick High boys golf coach Robert Henning.
Actually, Henning has several reasons not to mind all the rain.
"The season keeps getting pushed back due to weather, which isn't all bad since early April is rarely pleasant for golfing and our number one guy, Drew Agey, is recovering from knee surgery," Henning said.

East Brunswick had its first two matches called off by rain. The team was rained out against Old Bridge on April 1 and South Brunswick on April 5.
The team did finally get a match in on April 6. Unfortunately, East Brunswick was up against a very talented St. Joseph team. St. Joseph improved to 3-0 with a 164-186 victory.

"St. Joe's is the defending conference champ and the favorite this year," Henning said.
When Agey is healthy, he'll be in the lineup. There are seven other golfers working to get into the Bear's lineup, including seniors John Lim, Aaron Himelman, Sam Nadler and Mike Masterton. John Landi and Dominic Acosta are juniors battling for playing time. Sophomore Mike O'Kane is also eager to show what he can do.
"We will rotate guys in and out depending on who is playing well in practice and in matches," Henning said.
Obviously, all of the rain is making it a little hard to figure out who is golfing well. The rainouts, however, guarantee there will be a lot of matches later in the season. That could help the East Brunswick golfers find a good groove. Add that to the return of Agey and, just like May flowers, the April rain could be helping East Brunswick golf grow into something special.
"He (Agey) should be ready to play in a couple of weeks, and that makes us much more competitive right away," Henning noted.
Weather permitting, East Brunswick has a match at Piscataway on April 11 and another at Edison on April 13.
