East Brunswick Elks and Scouts Perform Flag Retirement Ceremony

East Brunswick cub scouts pack and troop proudly participating at Elks Lodge # 2370 in East Brunswick, NJ

On June 14, 2019, East Brunswick Elks Lodge # 2370 hosted their annual Flag Day ceremony. East Brunswick Cub scouts pack along with troop scouts participated with their leaders in cutting up the retired flags and to get them ready for the ceremony.

The Elks #2370 had a beautiful educational indoor ceremony showing all the guests. They read the history on how the flags came about. Attendees got a chance to see the first flags that were appointed before the current USA flag that has 50 stars and 13 stripes.

After the indoor ceremony, the older scouts with their troop leaders ignited the fire and encouraged the cub scouts to bid goodbye to the retired flags - a ceremony of respect. Cub scouts learnt that they can't throw away worn out American flags. They need to follow a ceremony that involved cutting up the American flags a certain way and then offering them to the fire as a final send off.
