East Brunswick Library To Host Talk on Marijuana Legalization

The discussion will delve into the history of legalization in the state and look at the risks and benefits of using marijuana.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Public Library and the Coalition For Healthy Communities will host a public discussion on the recent marijuana legalization in the state on March 19 at noon.

Titled "An Overview Of Marijuana Legalization In New Jersey” the talk will feature a discussion on the history of marijuana legalization in New Jersey and throughout the country.

It will look at the risks and benefits of using marijuana recreationally and medicinally.

It will also delve into the lessons learned from other states that have legalized recreational marijuana.

The talk will be hosted by Mara Carlin, coordinator of coalition and community programs at Wellspring Center for Prevention.

The program will be held online on Zoom. It is free and open to the public. Registration is required to attend.

Gov. Phil Murphy recently signed three bills into law that make adult use of marijuana legal, and decriminalize small amounts of marijuana possession.

New Jersey became the 13th state in the country to legalize weed, joining states like California, Colorado, Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Last November, more than 70 percent New Jersey voters supported legalizing marijuana, via a change to the state's constitution.
