East Brunswick Library To Screen Voter Suppression Documentary
The library is teaming up with the Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics and the American Issues Initiative for the screening.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick Public Library is teaming up with the Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics and the American Issues Initiative to screen a documentary on voter suppression on Sep. 22, at 7 p.m.
Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook is an award-winning documentary narrated by Jeffrey Wright. It exposes the tactics used to suppress the vote and sparks a discussion on the actions needed to protect democracy.
The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with producer Tom Smith. There will also be a panel discussion and presentation featuring Christabel Cruz from Rutgers Center for Women and Politics; David Goodman, vice chair of Andrew Goodman Foundation; David Greenberg, professor of Media Studies & History at Rutgers, and John Lewis biographer; Chenjerai Kumanyika, professor of Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers, podcaster and social justice advocate and Lorraine Minnite, Rutgers-Camden Associate Professor and voting rights expert.

The screening is part of East Brunswick Library’s efforts to increase awareness on voting. The library also has the fall program series "Path to 2020 Elections", that explores the election process.
