East Brunswick Man Helps Police Catch Car Burglar

After car burglaries on Summerhill Rd. Feb. 23, a resident notified police his stolen credit card was used at the Macy's at Brunswick Square

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick police say that numerous unlocked cars were entered this past weekend in the area of Summerhill and Old Stage roads, and they actually were able to arrest the alleged suspect after a resident said their stolen credit card was being used at the Macy's at Brunswick Square Mall.

The break-ins all happened in the overnight hours between Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24. Numerous unlocked cars in the area of Summerhill Road and Old Stage Road were entered; change, cell phones, gift cards and credit cards were stolen.

One victim who had credit cards stolen was notified by his credit card company that one of the cards was used at the local East Brunswick 7-Eleven at 111 Main Street at approximately 5:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. Video surveillance from the 7-Eleven produced a suspect.

At approximately 1 p.m. that same Saturday, the same victim contacted police headquarters and advised that his stolen credit card was currently being used at Macy’s in the Brunswick Square Mall. Patrol units responded to Macy’s and located the suspect, who matched the person on the 7-Eleven video surveillance.

Mark Kraft, 32, of Sayreville, was found in possession of the stolen credit card, as well as heroin, police said. Kraft was charged with four counts of burglary to a motor vehicle, two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, credit card theft, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Kraft was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
