East Brunswick Mayor David Stahl Resigns to Become Woodbridge Judge
Patch wonders if he'll hear the case of Rocco Garruto, the Woodbridge pet store owner accused of animal cruelty.

East Brunswick, NJ - Goodbye, Mayor David Stahl. Hello, Judge Stahl. The seven-year mayor of East Brunswick officially resigned Wednesday to become a municipal judge in Woodbridge Township.
As Patch previously reported, Stahl’s resignation was expected, but he announced his official resignation on his Facebook page Wednesday:
“Today is bittersweet. I have officially resigned as Mayor of this great town to pursue a new and exciting opportunity as a municipal court judge. For the past 20+ years, I have proudly served my community, whether it was in the soccer club, in my synagogue, as a councilman or for the past 7 years as Mayor,” wrote Stahl. He continues:

“My family and I are not going anywhere and I know that whether it is on the soccer fields, baseball fields, or at different school and community events, I will see many of you. I plan to continue volunteering and being a part of this wonderful town that has been my home for over 35 years.”
Stahl switched from Democrat to Republican in 2013 so he could run for Barbara Buono’s former state Senate seat; however, he lost that race.

Stahl’s appointment as a municipal judge in Woodbridge has been approved, but there is not date yet for his swearing-in. Once he’s in Woodbridge, Patch wonders if he’ll hear the case of Rocco Garruto, the Fancy Pups owner accused of animal cruelty. Garruto was due in Woodbridge municipal court Wednesday, but his attorney postponed it.
Until the Council chooses a new mayor, East Brunswick’s current business administrator James White will serve as acting mayor. The position of mayor will come up for election in November.
