East Brunswick police used Narcan and CPR to save an overdose victim this week, authorities said.

East Brunswick police saved an overdose victim this week.
According to a news release from East Brunswick police:
Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, police were sent to a Prigmore Street home, where the homeowner was performing CPR on an unconscious 37-year-old South River man.

Police were told that victim had just taken heroin.
Patrol Officers Agnes Garncarz, Kevin Bolch and Matthew Unkel continued CPR, while Officer Dennis Chieffo retrieved a Narcan kit from his vehicle.

The victim did not respond to the first dose of the antidote.
East Brunswick Rescue Squad arrived and began to assist. Chieffo then administered a second dose of Narcan, which revived the man.
The 37-year-old was conscious and talking when he was brought to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for further treatment.
Police began carrying Narcan in March.
