East Brunswick Police Urge Caution As School Year Begins

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — With the school year beginning this week, drivers are being reminded to use extra caution as students return to classrooms and school buses return to local roadways, according to East Brunswick police.

Drivers should slow down and stay alert around school buses and bus stops, as children may be crossing the street or approaching a bus from areas that are difficult for drivers to see, police said.

When a school bus displays flashing red lights and extends its stop arm, drivers must stop, according to police. Motorists should never attempt to pass a stopped school bus when children are loading or unloading.

Drivers are also urged to give themselves extra time, put their phones down, and watch for students throughout neighborhoods, police said.

"A safe school year starts with all of us," police said.
