East Brunswick Public Library Starts Concerts in the Courtyard Series
Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners.

East Brunswick Public Library (2 Jean Walling Civic Center) begins the "Concerts in the Courtyard" performance series.
These free outdoor concerts feature a diverse lineup of entertainers, representing the many cultures that make up central New Jersey. They all start at 2:00 pm.
Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.

The first performance is from Ukrainian Dancers USA on May 8. This renowned folk music, dance and song ensemble has performed to audiences at some of the biggest venues, including Carnegie Hall, the United Nations and the Smithsonian Institute. Mikhail Smirnov, the group's founder and artistic director, was one of the judges on NBC's hit show Superstars of Dance.
The Afro-Peruvian Sextet comes to the library on May 15. Formed in 2005 by trumpeter Gabriel Alegria, this group combines improv and jazz elements from North American and South American music. The band was described by The New York Times as being "a kinetic and rhythmically astute band mixing Afro-Peruvian musical traditions with steamy jazz improvising."

Ed Goldberg leads his Odessa Klezmer Band during a concert on May 22. For over 35 years, he has been performing klezmer music--a genre of music tied to the Jewish Eastern Europe of the past--to an audience worldwide. The band's last album, Who Stole The Kishka?!, was an international bestseller.
The June 5 concert features various music and dance from Eastern Asian cultures. Other concerts in the series include the Latin sounds of the Ritmo Caliente Band on June 12 and the Indian ensemble Jersey Rhythms on June 26.
The "Concerts In The Courtyard" series is held in the East Brunswick Municipal Courtyard, between the library and the township building. Concertgoers are advised to bring something to sit on, like beach chairs or a blanket.
