East Brunswick’s Recreation Department Has Ambitious 2022 Plans
The Township's Parks and Recreation Department will undertake various new projects and continue popular events and programs this year.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Township’s Parks and Recreation Department has a busy year ahead in East Brunswick. During his recent "State of the Township" address, Mayor Brad Cohen highlighted the various programs and projects the Recreational Department will undertake this year.
To begin with, the long-anticipated COVID-19 sculpture is expected to be installed this spring at the Community Arts Center. Renovation work is anticipated at the basketball courts at the Bicentennial Park, and improvement work will begin at the Municipal Park, Sadowski and Country Lane Park and field remediation at Heavenly Park.
“Plans are also underway to come up with architectural renderings of the expansion for the Community Arts Center since $750,000 of the $1 million state grant for this project has already been received,” Cohen said.

Bridge At Beaver Dam Park
The Township will be installing a bridge over the brook at Beaver Dam Park, Cohen said. They will also be opening the park near the Elks Lodge for boys and girls scouts training.

“We are looking to finalize the bike path from the Community Arts Center to Crystal Springs – a project supported through federal grants,” Cohen said.
Plans to develop a cricket field at Heavenly Farms are also in the works as is the creation of passive recreation at Foerter Farm off of Riva Avenue.
Summer Programs
The Township is will be offering a whole lot of summer programs this year for families. The Summer Day Camp will return to the public school, and Crystal Springs Water Park will open for summer family fun.
However, due to difficulty in finding adequate staff, the water park will operate on a 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. schedule, Cohen said.
“There will be reduced rates for full season passes for residents, and they will also have the opportunity to enter the park one hour early,” the mayor said.
Events, Programs To Continue
And just like most years, the 2022 schedule for Township-wide events will feature a wide range of holidays. They include Memorial Day, Veterans Day, July 4th fireworks, 911 ceremony and the Unity Walk.
Programs that began last year will continue this year as well, Cohen said. They include community celebrations like Ramadan, Diwali, the Indie Film Festival, and Harvest Festival.
The department’s first Lunar New Year celebration was also a big success, said Cohen. “It’s really nice that we can all celebrate each other’s ethnic and religious holidays. In the end, we learn that we share so much more in common than the things that make us different,” Cohen said.
