East Brunswick: White Powder On Nose Leads To Car Search

A man stopped by police on Lakeview Ave. in East Brunswick was seen with white powder around his nose, which led to a search of his car.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man stopped by police in East Brunswick was seen with white powder around his nose, which led to a search of his car and subsequent vials of cocaine and the date-rape drug "roofies" allegedly found in his car, police said.

The incident started after East Brunswick police were asked by residents to do targeted patrols of the Lakeview Avenue area after getting complaints of trespassers there. At 1:22 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, an East Brunswick patrol officer stopped to talk to a man behind the wheel of a Nissan with its lights on parked on Farrington Avenue.

The driver, Roman Gromyak, 24, of Milltown, had a suspicious "white powdery substance in and around his nose," East Brunswick police said. He and his car were searched and a trove of drugs, both legal and illegal, were allegedly found. That allegedly included two plastic bags of suspected cocaine, six plastic bags of a rock-like substance of suspected methamphetamine, one glass bottle containing a liquid of suspect GHB (also known as the "date rape" drug) and multiple pills of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and the painkiller Oxycontin.
