East Brunswick Woman Broke Into 2 Homes, Police Say

The burglaries both occurred last Tuesday, Feb. 14, one on Milltown Road and the other on Herbert Drive, police said.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - An East Brunswick woman has been arrested and charged with breaking into two homes in the Township last week while the owners were away. Amy Streko, 34, of East Brunswick, has been charged with breaking into homes on Milltown Road and Herbert Drive. She is the same woman who, along with her husband, Michael Streko, abducted their 8-year-old son from his grandmother's home in Green Brook two years ago, violating a court order, NJ.com reported.

The burglaries both occurred last Tuesday, Feb. 14. The homeowner of the Milltown Road property was out of the country but was able to supply a picture from his security camera of an unknown female suspect inside his home. The resident at the Herbert Drive burglary reported approximately $3,000 worth of coins taken from his residence.

On Friday, February 17, Officer Justin Schlusselfeld was patrolling the area of Ryders Lane near where the burglaries occurred and observed a woman walking on Ryders Lane who matched the description of the female suspect caught on the surveillance video. He stopped her, and found that she was in possession of gold dollar coins, police said.

Amy Streko, 34, of East Brunswick, also attempted to hinder her apprehension by providing a false name to Officer Schlusselfeld. She was placed under arrest and from there, Officer Schlusselfeld was able to identify her as the female suspect from the victim’s video surveillance at Milltown Road.

Members of East Brunswick's Anti-Crime Unit assisted with a consent search at Streko's residence where she was staying with her boyfriend. The search yielded an additional $500 of the stolen gold dollar coins and clothing matching what Streko was wearing during the burglary at Milltown Road. Additionally, the victim from Herbert Drive was able to identify a black bag that had been taken from his residence, containing additional gold coins.
