East Brunswick Woman Wins Writing Contest

The inspiring tale about her father's role in her life won Ellen Burke first place.

Writer Ellen Burke, of East Brunswick, won the latest installment of a writing contest on Aug. 10 for her short story “Angels are Among Us.”

The weekly, free-entry contest is sponsored by Midlife Collage LLC based in Nevada. Nonfiction stories about midlife experiences were eligible.

Burke’s essay tells the story of her deceased father, the lessons he taught her while he was alive and how he continues to give her guidance after his passing.

The winner of the contest is selected by readers who get to judge the essays through Facebook likes, “high-quality” Facebook comments and closing arguments submitted to the judges through the contest website. An entry must place in all three categories in order to win.

Burke’s story is now featured on the winner’s circle page on the contest website.
