Fifth Middlesex County Home Invasion Involving Asian-Indian Victims

Prosecutor: An undisclosed number of men entered the home, restrained family members, searched the house and fled.

Police are investigating a break-in in Old Bridge Saturday that would be the fifth Middlesex County home invasion involving Asian-Indian victims since September.

Police were called after an undisclosed number of men entered the home, restrained family members, searched the house and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department announced Sunday.

Police were alerted to the home invasion at 8:51 p.m. on Saturday. The victims reported that armed individuals entered and searched the home at 7:20 p.m.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office declined comment on whether the incidents are related, or whether they were committed by the same individuals.

No arrests have been made, but an investigation is active and is continuing with assistance from the New Jersey State Police, the FBI and the Edison, South Plainfield and OldBridge police departments.

Carey advised residents to be vigilant, watch neighbors’ homes and call police regarding any suspicious activity. He also advised residents to make certain their homes are secure.

Those who call will be given instructions on how to collect cash rewards by using a numerical code that will be recognized by a local bank, which will pay the rewards following approval by Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County Inc.
