Forever 21 In East Brunswick To Permanently Close

The Brunswick Square Forever 21 is on the list of six NJ stores that will close by the end of 2019. There will also be liquidation sales.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Bad news for fans of cheap, trendy clothing: The Forever 21 at the Brunswick Square Mall is on the list of six stores in the state of New Jersey that will be closed by the company.

Forever 21 is planning to close six of its 20 stores in New Jersey after the company announced a bankruptcy filing over the weekend. The Brunswick Square Mall location is one of them.

Closing dates were not given, but it is expected those six will close by the end of 2019. There will also be liquidation sales. Those six locations are viewed as some of their least profitable stores.

Forever 21 has 549 stores in the U.S. and 251 locations internationally. The company plans to close 178 of those stores, a mix of U.S. and international locations, trimming down about a third of its U.S. brick-and-mortar business.

The next nearest Forever 21s are at the Menlo Park Mall, Woodbridge Center Mall, Quakerbridge Mall and the Freehold Raceway Mall.

Forever 21 announced they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a letter to customers. However, the teenage clothing store doesn't plan to go out of business. Instead, the company said in the letter the filed for bankruptcy protection as a "deliberate and decisive step to put us on a successful track for the future."
