Matchbox 20 Singer Rob Thomas Donates $10K to East Brunswick Animal Shelter

East Brunswick, NJ - You may not have heard from the band Matchbox 20 for a while, but its lead singer, Rob Thomas, just recently donated $10,000 to an East Brunswick-based animal rescue group.

Rob Thomas, who still works as an independent singer-songwriter, runs the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising money for no-kill animal shelters. His organization will give $10,000 to the Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society, which is based in East Brunswick but operates out of the PetSmart in North Brunswick on Rt. 1. That $10,000 will go to pay for vet bills, high-quality pet food and to support a large trap-neuter-release (TNR) project the group is slated to kick off this fall. They will do a TNR in Woodbridge and another in Somerset, where they expect to trap, neuter and release 35 cats total.

Thomas and his wife Marisol started the Sidewalk Angels Foundation in 2003. Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society was recommended to Sidewalk Angels by one of their supporters, Heidi Beman of Karma Cat + Zen Dog told Patch.

Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society currently is taking care of all cats at the moment: 22 adult cats and 23 kittens, some less than 1 year old. They expect to bring in five more kittens within the next two weeks. You can find Karma Cat + Zen Dog volunteers at the Petsmart on Rt. 1 every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Their volunteers help care for the cats at the store and help with adoption!
