Four homes in South Amboy have been evacuated because of a sinkhole that opened up Tuesday morning, according to published reports.

A vehicle fell into the hole on Gordon Street, according to reports.

Police told News 12 New Jersey that they believe the sinkhole was caused by a water main break.

CBS New York reported that sinkhole opened around 6:40 a.m.

In an alert, South Amboy police said Gordon Street, east of Pine Avenue, will be closed until further notice, and they urged drivers and pedestrians to stay away from the area.
