Gun Found In Rt. 18 Car Stop, East Brunswick Police Say
The California man was pulled over near Cindy Way and charged with weapon possession, possession of hollow-point bullets and having pot.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A California man pulled over on Rt. 18 in East Brunswick in late December was found with an out-of-state gun, and hollow-point bullets on him, East Brunswick police said.
The man was pulled over at 11 p.m. on Dec. 28 on Rt. 18 in the area of Cindy Way after a police officer said he saw him making unsafe lane changes between Arthur Street and Racetrack Road. The arresting officer said he noticed an odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the car, and a search of the vehicle revealed marijuana inside, police said.
The driver was also in possession of a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun, which was unloaded, as well as eight hollow-point bullets.

The 31-year-old man from San Leandro, California was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point bullets and possession of marijuana.
New Jersey has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation: Even if you legally own a gun in another state, New Jersey will not recognize out-of-state gun carry permits, and any gun holder can be arrested. It is unknown if the man legally owned the gun in California.

In another Rt. 18 traffic stop, a Manalapan man was charged with marijuana possession after he was pulled over on Rt. 18 south near Rues Lane on Dec. 6. He was also found with two open containers of alcohol in his car, police said, as well as Xanax pills.
