History, Tragedy and Comedy of the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field

They may have left the East Coast almost seventy years ago, but people still remember when the Dodgers played in Brooklyn. The East Brunswick Friends of the Library hosts the presentation History, Tragedy and Comedy: The Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field at the East Brunswick Public Library (2 Jean Walling Civic Center Drive) on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:30 pm.

From 1913 through 1957, Ebbets Field was the Brooklyn Dodger’s home park. Those years were filled with moments that were historic, sad and just plain funny. This program will present highlights from each category to capture the spirit of the Dodgers and their beloved ballpark.

During the Dodgers’ time at Ebbets Field, they won several National League pennants and the historic 1955 World series championship.

The presentation is given by John Zinn, an independent historian with a special interest in the history of baseball. He is the chairman of the board of the New Jersey Historical Society, and the author of five books, including three about the Brooklyn Dodgers. He also writes a blog on baseball history entitled A Manly Pastime. He is the scorekeeper for the Flemington Neshanock vintage baseball team. John holds BA and MBA degrees from Rutgers University and is a Vietnam veteran.
