EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Construction of housing and retail space is underway at the former Wonder Bread site in East Brunswick, according to developer Garden Communities.

The mixed-use community is on track for marketing and leasing in mid-2023.

Located at 110 Tices Lane, just off Route 18, Legacy Place will feature 520 luxury apartments and townhomes. Around 104 homes will be earmarked for affordable housing, to help the Township meet court-mandated quota.

The location of the project will provide the Township with "market advantage," according to Scott Loventhal, managing director, Garden Communities.

“Legacy Place has been designed as a pedestrian-centric, town center-style development,” Loventhal said. “Its product mix – including one-, two- and three-bedroom residences – benefits every demographic, from young professionals and families to empty-nesters.”

Two urban-style apartment buildings with garage parking and 18,000 square feet of ground-floor retail will front on Tices Lane. The suburban-style apartments and townhomes will be located toward the rear of the 25-acre site.

The development project will take place in three phases.

The project will feature a state-of-the-art fitness center, community rooms and a co-working space. Outdoor amenities include a resort-style swimming pool, outdoor kitchen and grilling stations. The grounds will include walking paths, lots of open space, a dog park and several small parks for residents.

A shuttle service will help residents reach the East Brunswick bus terminal, which offers non-stop service to Manhattan.

The Township’s new ice rink will be located adjacent to the property.

Garden Communities is building a new traffic signal that will help to alleviate existing traffic. They also plan to relocate a municipal road to provide more vehicle capacity.
