
Was your New Year's Resolution to start a non-profit? East Brunswick Public Library (2 Jean Walling Civic Center) can help with the webinar "Take A Business Brak: How To Start A Charity" on January 19 at noon.
This program will explain 30 Steps involved in establishing a 501c3 charity or not-for-profit (NFP) organization to support your interests and causes. It will include IRS and state filings, contribution deductibility before the organization is approved, methods of raising revenues and unrelated business activities, volunteer and paid staff, public databases and disclosures, tax exempt purchases, raffle license procedures, getting a terminated NFP reinstated, resources available to assist the NFP in its organizational period, maintaining records and financial reports, responsibilities of directors and insurance coverage for directors.
Edward Mendlowitz, CPA, presents the program. He is an emeritus partner at WithumSmith+Brown, PC and is one of Accounting Today’s 100 Most Influential People. Ed is the author of 29 books and has written over 1500 articles and blogs, and developed and presented over 350 speeches to accountants and general audiences. He is a licensed, certified public accountant accredited by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in business valuation and as a personal financial specialist (PFS). He teaches courses on financial accounting at FDU and Baruch College.
